Say No to Terrorism: In Memory of Lyra McKee

I woke up to the news that not only had there been rioting in Derry last night but that a 29 year old journalist had been shot by the terrorists of the the so-called "Real IRA". There can can be no excuses for bringing guns or violence back to the streets of Northern Ireland. None whatsoever.

This comes just 24 hours after the visit by divisive American politician Nancy Pelosi. Her remarks about the threat to US trade if there's a hard border were less than helpful and frankly explosive given the current impasse in Ulster politics let alone the divisions over Brexit.

The victim was not just a journalist but a campaigner for Gay & Lesbian rights in a community where both hard line Catholics and Protestants still rail against homosexuality.

The following video which lasts just 11 minutes is a fitting tribute to a woman who stood to bridge gaps between people. Lyra McKee preached tolerance.

The shooter stood for hate.

There must be no return to violence.
