The Socialist Workers Party are a group desperate to gain attention to garner support for their washed up cult around Professor Callinicos. This week the comrades are working on "building a demonstration against the far right".
The SWP have the audacity to use the murder of 11 Jews in Pittsburgh as part of their pitch and then coniue with their one-sided reporting of the Israel/Palestine conflict a trend on the left that has seen anti-Zionism morph into anti-Semitism. The threat to Jews in this country comes from the far-left and the Islamists.
What's left of the "far-right" are just a few cranks in declining and divided organisations that frankly no one even takes any notice of any more. Of course they point to Tommy Robinson and the Democratic Football Lads Alliance as evidence of a right-wing resurgence. A far too simple analysis by far.
That these groups represent a section of the disaffected white working class with concerns that radically differ from the wants of the revolutionary vanguardists of the likes of the SWP goes without saying. Those attracted to the various marches held by this group are not your skinhead types found on National Front marches back in the seventies.
Of course far-right activists are attracted to these events much in the same way the parasites of the far-left have always jumped on board every campaign and march they can find. That doesn't make these people actual fascists though. A different approach is required because many of the views these people hold are fairly common amongst the public.
Concerns about levels of immigration, child abuse gangs not dealt with due to the fear of authorities being called "racist" and problems with Islam and the difficulties of/or lack of integration by large sections of the Muslim community are widespread. These problems will not be solved by shouting inane slogans on demonstrations, calling for "open borders" and calling every critic of immigration or Islam a "racist".
But the SWP and the far-left along with much of even the mainstream political establishment is deaf to much of this, the latter preferring to pretend there are no real problems at all.
The decline of the influence of the far-left outside the Labour Party continues as the larger of the former Militant Tendency remnants reports on it's paper sales in Leeds, a quite sizeable and busy city up north as they say:
Starting with issue 1000 of the Socialist, Socialist Party members in Leeds have been selling the newspaper every week outside the new Leeds City Council building in the city centre. Each Friday morning, we're there selling to various workers, some of who buy each week. Others will buy the Socialist more occasionally, or if the cover story piques their interest.
Since starting the sale, we've now sold over 100 copies of the Socialist, with sales varying from sometimes just a couple of papers to selling 15 one week.
The move to replace Chris has led to a potentially damaging campaign within Left Unity. Chris, along with other Socialist Party members, is being opposed by the newly formed Socialist View including the Socialist Workers' Party.
It is clear they want to remove the voice of the Socialist Party in PCS. Their slates are divisive and do not follow in the best traditions of the left, which reflect all strands of opinion in Left Unity.

Given the photo shows six of them pushing the boring rag it's a lot of effort for not a lot of return. The paper describes this all as a "sales success". The words "generally ignored" comes to mind. The new political intake is all on-line as some of your more savvy competitors have noticed.
Even in their "stronghold" of the PCS civil service union they're in trouble. A split occurred that has seen their highest ranking trade union official Chris Baugh see himself undermined by a break in their own ranks sponsored by Mark Serwotka. In the latest issue of their paper they declare Chris has received the backing of reps in the National Gallery....well four people anyway.
Meanwhile the comrades panic further as the PCS Left Unity internal elections for candidates opens. According the the SP:
It is clear they want to remove the voice of the Socialist Party in PCS. Their slates are divisive and do not follow in the best traditions of the left, which reflect all strands of opinion in Left Unity.
Not sure that anyone has ever thought the Militant Tendency/Socialist Party as being particularly inclusive of others. No groups on the far-left are if they can help it. The SP has had the upper hand in PCS for a long time going back to pre-merger CPSA days.
Their influence is now declining as so many of their leading cadres jumped ship and backed Godrich against Baugh. Still if their comrades lose they can always go back to the streets to sell papers......
