As Yazidi Woman wins Nobel Peace Prize Where was Corbyn?

Nadia Murad in Washington in 2018

The Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to two brave anti-rape activists. The BBC reports :

The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to campaigners against rape in warfare Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege.

Ms Murad is an Iraqi Yazidi who was tortured and raped by Islamic State militants and later became the face of a campaign to free the Yazidi people.

Dr Mukwege is a Congolese gynaecologist who, along with his colleagues, has treated tens of thousands of victims.

Nadia's background is a disturbing story:

Ms Murad, 25, endured three months as a sex slave at the hands of Islamic State (IS) militants. She was bought and sold several times and subjected to sexual and physical abuse during her captivity.

She became an activist for the Yazidi people after escaping IS in November 2014, campaigning to help put an end to human trafficking and calling on the world to take a tougher line on rape as a weapon of war.

The West was slow to respond to the rise of ISIS who could have been stopped a lot earlier had the will been there. The rise of so-called peace movements like the Stop the War Campaign and the actions of banal politicians like Jeremy Corbyn prevented a proper response because they didn't care enough to save lives. Palestine yes, everyone else (except the IRA) no. Disgraceful people.

Peter Tatchell reminded us of Corbyn's cowardice here:

Jeremy Corbyn must never be Prime Minister. He and his allies would make us weak and just surrender the world to every genocidal movement and dictatorship.

  1. Corbyn's Labour: For the Moslem not the Jew - or the Yazidi, the Christian or the Sikh.
